Week 5: 4/20 – 4/24 Distance Learning Assignments
Please work on these lessons daily to keep up with your schoolwork. . There are some assignments that I will need for you to send to me . You may write out the assignments on paper and take a picture of them, type your answers on a word document, or copy the assignments from your student portal. Whichever way is easier for you is fine. Please email them to me at: nraffa@dadeschools.net. Make sure you write your name, date and the assignment on your work before you send it. Thank you.
Remember you will need to access your reading books online through your portal as I showed you in class. (Click on the red book, select your class, click on “resources”. You will use 4 books from those resources: the Reading Writing Workshop Book, the Literature Anthology book, the Your Turn Practice workbook, and the Grammar Practice workbook)
Also remember to work on your other assignments from Ms. Ojito, Ms. Miyar, Mr. Anuez/Nunez, Ms. Placeres, and Mr. Garrastazu.

Activities that you should work on daily are as follows:
* Independent reading. You may go to Myon, Tumblebooks (the username and password is “miami-dade”), Time For Kids.com, or a book at home. Find a story/article of interest on your level and read for 15 – 20 minutes.
* Work on your i-ready – YOU ONLY NEED TO DO 60 MINUTES PER WEEK 😊 I will check your progress each Monday.
* Remember to take a break, have a snack, watch a good tv show….
We are working on Unit 4 Week 2
Comprehension Skill: Point of View (how the author feels/thinks about the events in the story); 1st person narrator (tells a story about themselves); 3rd person narrator (tells a story about other people)
Vocabulary Strategy: Idioms (phrases that don’t mean exactly what the words are saying)
“It’s raining cats and dogs.”
Grammar: Pronouns (words that take place of nouns)
He, she, his, hers, me, my, I, etc……..
Spelling Words:
funnier, families, pennies, worried, replied, varied, marries, carries, easily, silliest, jumpier, emptier, merrier, applied, cozily, sorriest, prettily, lazier, happiest, dizziest
Vocabulary Words:
accompanies, campaign, governor, intend, opponent overwhelming, tolerate, weary
1. accompanies - goes along with something
2. campaign - a series of actions planned and carried out to bring about a particular result
3. governor - a person elected to be the head of a state government in the United States
4. intend - to have a purpose or plan in mind
5. opponent - a person or group that is against another in a fight, contest, or discussion
6. overwhelming - overcoming or overpowering completely
7. tolerate - to put up with, or endure someone or something
8. weary - to be very tired

Monday, April 20, 2020:
* Review your new spelling and vocabulary words.
* Go to your student portal and access your reading books.
* Click on the RWW book.
* Read “Time Specs” on pages 252-255.
* Go to the Your Turn Practice Workbook from the reading book selection in your portal.
* Complete workbook page 161 on paper (or print it out and complete it). PLEASE EMAIL THIS ASSIGNMENT TO ME FOR A GRADE.

* Read pages 257-258 about “Point of View” and “Fantasy” in your RWW book.

* Read page 259 about “Idioms” from your RWW book.
* Go to the Your Turn Practice Workbook from the reading book selection in your portal. Read page 167 about idioms. You do not need to send this to me.
Thursday, April 23, 2020
* Review your spelling words.
* Go to your Literature Anthology Book in your student portal.
* Read “La Rue for Mayor” on pages 288-307.
* Complete “Respond to Reading” on page 309. Draw and complete the graphic organizer at the top of the page to summarize the story. Answer questions #1-3 in complete sentences. PLEASE EMAIL THIS ASSIGNMENT TO ME FOR A GRADE.
